Notre Dame Cathedral

When he was appointed bishop of Paris in 1160, Maurice de Sully wanted to build a cathedral dedicated to the Virgin Mary and worthy of the rapidly growing capital city. The first stone was laid for the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, in 1163 and construction was completed in 1272. Notre Dame Cathedral has spiritual, cultural, historic and political significance and has become a symbol of Paris. The front of this beautiful geocoin shows the west façade of the cathedral. The back features one of the stained glass windows all in transparent color.
